Sarah Ferguson’s future and status revealed as Prince Andrew is no longer ‘Prince Andrew’

After the shocking announcement that King Charles III has stripped Prince Andrew of his “prince” title, many royal followers are left wondering what this means for his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.

The King’s dramatic move, made on October 30, saw Andrew formally lose his titles of Prince, Duke of York, and his HRH style — effectively marking the end of his public royal life.

The decision followed renewed scrutiny over his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and allegations made by Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was sexually abused by Andrew while still a minor. The disgraced royal will now be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

In addition, Andrew has agreed to vacate Royal Lodge, his Windsor residence, where he and Ferguson have lived together for two decades following their divorce. With the scandal unfolding, attention has now turned to what comes next for Sarah Ferguson.

Sarah Ferguson’s Future Title

Ferguson lost her title of Duchess of York earlier this month when Andrew’s own titles were revoked. She had first received the title in 1986 upon marrying Prince Andrew, but after their separation in 1992 and subsequent divorce in 1996, she retained the courtesy title “Sarah, Duchess of York.”

Now, however, she will go by her full name — Sarah Ferguson — in both her personal and professional life. This transition appears to have already begun, as she recently updated her X (formerly Twitter) handle from “@SarahTheDuchess” to “@sarahMFergie15.”

While Sarah has lost her royal title, her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will keep theirs, as both were born into royalty and granted their titles at birth.

Where Will Sarah Ferguson Live?

With both Andrew and Sarah ordered to leave Royal Lodge, speculation has mounted over where the Duchess-turned-author will live next. The pair have shared the Windsor estate home since 2008 — despite their long-ended marriage — but Buckingham Palace confirmed that formal notice to surrender the lease has now been issued.

“The move will take place as soon as practicable,” the palace said in a statement.

Reports suggest that Andrew is expected to relocate to a smaller home on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. As for Sarah, however, she has reportedly been left to arrange her own living situation.

According to Metro, she has been told to find alternative accommodation, with earlier rumors suggesting she had expressed interest in Adelaide Cottage near Windsor — though those claims have since been denied.

Royal commentator Russell Myers told Sunrise: “Andrew will be given a residence on the royal Sandringham estate in Norfolk. He’s been banished from Windsor. Sarah Ferguson, we understand, was asking for a royal residence as well. I’m told she will no longer have any residence within Windsor. She will have to fend for herself. It’s very, very much that Andrew and Fergie have been exiled from this affair.”

A spokesperson for PA also confirmed that King Charles will not be providing housing for Ferguson.

For now, her future home remains unknown — but as the dust settles from the royal fallout, it’s likely her next steps will soon become clear.
