‘In the doghouse’: Inside Fergie’s final days at Royal Lodge

Sarah Ferguson is said to be “not in a good way” as she prepares to leave Royal Lodge, the grand Windsor residence she has shared with her ex-husband Prince Andrew for the past 20 years.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are reportedly worried about their mother’s emotional state and uncertain future.

Emotional Strain and Growing Concerns

According to insiders, the Duchess of York, 65, has been relying heavily on palace courtiers and household staff for emotional support. Sources told The Sun that Ferguson has been finding it increasingly difficult to cope with recent developments.

“It is no secret that Sarah is not in a good way at the moment,” one source shared. “The girls are extremely worried about her and making sure they stay in touch. She feels she is blameless but has taken what has happened recently extremely hard.”

Ferguson’s distress reportedly intensified after the palace stripped her and Andrew of their York titles, following renewed scrutiny over the couple’s past association with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The loss of her Duchess title — which she had held since her 1986 marriage — has been a particularly painful blow.

The End of Life at Royal Lodge

The former Duke and Duchess of York have lived at the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park since 2004. The 30-room estate, one of the grandest homes within the Crown Estate, has served as Ferguson’s London base during her charity work and various business ventures.

However, with their lease reportedly ending, both Andrew and Sarah are expected to vacate the property in the coming months. Despite still living under the same roof, sources claim they lead largely separate lives — sleeping at opposite ends of the mansion and meeting mainly at mealtimes to discuss their uncertain future.

Leaning on Staff and Finding Solace in the “Doghouse”

The insider revealed that Ferguson has become increasingly dependent on her household staff, often asking them to stay late to keep her company. “Sarah is spending quite a lot of evenings in The Doghouse, which is a purpose-built bar behind Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park,” the source said. “She drinks in there with friends and staff to escape from what is going on in her life generally. And while she is there, she takes advice on what to do next.”

Moving Forward with Andrew and Their Beloved Pets

Despite the upheaval, Ferguson and Andrew are expected to remain together in some capacity. The pair currently share their home with several dogs, including Queen Elizabeth II’s two surviving corgis, who were left in their care after the late monarch’s passing.

It is understood that when the couple relocates, the beloved dogs will accompany them — a small comfort as they prepare to leave behind the estate that has been their home for two decades.
