Prince Harry had a few love interests before marrying his wife, Meghan Markle, in 2018, with one leaving him for a specific reason.
Princess Kate and Prince William were reportedly the reason why Prince Harry’s ex realised she did not want to live her life as a member of the Royal Family.
Harry, who dated Chelsy Davy on and off from 2004 until 2010, was determined to make it work with his girlfriend. However, she was not ready to commit to life as a royal.
Although she was close with William and Kate and attended their 2011 wedding, this big happy occasion reportedly confirmed her feelings and justified why she and Harry broke up a year prior.
In the royal biography ‘Harry: Conversations with the Prince’, journalist Angela Levin wrote: “A friend revealed that seeing the enormity and pomp of the day convinced Chelsy that she and Harry had been right to separate.
“Although they had a lot in common, she saw clearly that because they came from such different worlds, it could never have worked, especially as she valued her privacy and guarded it so carefully.”
Despite breaking up for the final time in 2010, Chelsy and Harry – whose relationship was closely followed by the media – remained friends, with Chelsy later attending his 2018 wedding to Meghan Markle.
Two years before the wedding, she spoke to The Times about how she struggled to be in the limelight when dating the prince.
She said in the 2016 interview: “It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable.
“I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn’t cope. I was young, I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible.
“It was nuts. That’s also why I wanted to go back to Africa. Now it’s calm, now it’s fine.”
