Meghan Markle speaks out on Donald Trump’s new global tariffs over possible impact on her brand

Meghan Markle has broken her silence on Donald Trump’s newly announced global tariffs and how they might affect her growing business.

The 43-year-old Duchess of Sussex recently launched her lifestyle brand, As Ever, on April 2, with several items quickly selling out to customers around the world.

But the launch coincided with the 78-year-old former president’s ‘Liberation Day’ announcement, where Trump revealed a list of reciprocal tariffs aimed at multiple countries across the U.S.

Speaking with Fortune on April 7, five days after Trump’s announcement, Meghan addressed whether the new economic policies could have any impact on her company, which currently offers products like a $28 wildflower honey with honeycomb and a selection of herbal teas including hibiscus, peppermint, and lemon ginger at $12 each.

“Right now, all of our products are made in the US,” she said.

She continued, “Looking at the bigger picture and how this might affect consumers on a daily basis, I’m really thankful that from the start, I envisioned this brand with products that feel premium but are still affordable and within reach.”

Meghan also commented on how a potential recession triggered by the tariffs might influence her brand.

“Even in tough economic times, people still look for small comforts, things that bring them happiness,” she explained.

As of now, As Ever ships to all 50 states, with plans underway to expand internationally.

Some have criticized the brand’s pricing—which ranges from $9 to $28—but Meghan was quick to clarify: “Most of our SKUs are priced under $20.”

“For me, even as the brand grows, it’s important that everything continues to feel accessible,” she added.

Alongside As Ever and her recently released Netflix lifestyle series on March 4, Meghan has also launched a new podcast. Just yesterday, April 8, the debut episode of Confessions of a Female Founder was released.

“I’m sharing my experience in real-time, not after the fact, not with the clarity that comes with hindsight,” she said.

“Even though it’s made for a pretty packed schedule… it just felt like the right way to honor the story being told.”
