Angelina Jolie Is Selling Her House & Leaving The Country

Angelina Jolie is preparing for a significant life change—selling her historic Los Angeles estate and relocating overseas.

According to a source who spoke with PEOPLE, the 50-year-old Maria star “plans to put the house up for sale” and is actively considering destinations abroad.

The insider noted that Jolie “never wanted to live in L.A. full time” but remained because of her custody arrangement with ex-husband Brad Pitt, 61.

Custody Arrangements Delayed Her Move

Jolie and Pitt finalized their divorce settlement in December 2024 after an eight-year legal battle. The former couple share six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

The source revealed that Jolie intends to move “as soon as Knox and Viv turn 18 next year,” adding, “She’s eyeing several locations abroad. She’ll be very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles.”

A Hollywood Landmark with a Rich History

Jolie’s current home, which she purchased in 2017 for $24.5 million, is an 11,000-square-foot architectural treasure dating back to 1913. The estate includes six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and sprawling landscaped grounds.

Its history traces back to legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, who bought it in 1916 for less than $28,000. At the time, it sat next to a property owned by Charlie Chaplin. When Chaplin later moved away, DeMille acquired the neighboring estate and merged the two, creating one of Hollywood’s most iconic properties.

“It’s a historic masterpiece and truly such a beautiful estate,” the source said, noting that Jolie will make minor upgrades before putting it on the market.

Her Time in Los Angeles Was Tied to Her Divorce

In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie admitted that her stay in Los Angeles was directly linked to her divorce proceedings. “I have to be here from a divorce,” she said, making clear that her long-term plans have always included living abroad.

She has often spoken about her desire to raise her children in an environment with “privacy, peace, safety”—qualities she feels are lacking in Los Angeles.

“When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here,” Jolie explained.

Future Plans Focused on Cambodia and Beyond

Once her twins reach adulthood, Jolie plans to divide her time between various international destinations. One place, however, holds a special significance—Cambodia, where she adopted her eldest son, Maddox, in 2002.

“I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia,” she shared, adding that she also hopes to visit her children and other family members “wherever they may be in the world.”

Earlier this year, at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Jolie described Cambodia as “the one place in my heart that I consider home.”

The End of an Era in Hollywood

If Jolie follows through with her plan, the move will not only take her overseas but also bring an end to her years in Los Angeles. It would also mark the sale of one of Hollywood’s most storied properties—closing a chapter in both her life and the history of the estate.
