My heart sank as I followed her gaze to see the sign planted firmly in the front yard. Panic surged through me, and I rushed into the house, my daughter close behind.
Inside, I found my husband sitting at the kitchen table, his face pale and drawn. “What’s going on?” I demanded, trying to keep the fear out of my voice.
He looked up at me, his eyes filled with regret. “It’s Emily,” he said quietly. “She’s filed a lawsuit against me, claiming that I owe her thousands of dollars in unpaid alimony.”
My stomach churned with anger and frustration. This wasn’t the first time his ex-wife had resorted to underhanded tactics to get what she wanted, but it was the most extreme. And now, our home was on the line because of her greed.
“We can fight this,” I said, trying to sound confident despite the turmoil swirling inside me.
But my husband shook his head wearily. “I’m tired of fighting,” he admitted. “I just want it to be over.”
I felt a surge of anger at his resignation, but I knew that now wasn’t the time for arguments. We needed to come together as a family and face this challenge head-on.
As we sat down together to discuss our options, I knew that no matter what happened, we would get through it together. And with determination and resilience, we would overcome whatever obstacles his ex-wife threw our way.
