Princess of Catherine’s White “Guady” Necklace at Commonwealth Day Sparks Debate

The Princess of Wales made a graceful entrance in a sophisticated outfit, highlighted by a cherished royal pearl necklace, for an important annual royal event.

On Monday, March 10, 2025, Princess Catherine turned heads at the Commonwealth Day celebrations held at Westminster Abbey in London.

She donned a tailored red coatdress featuring a statement bow, complemented by a matching pillbox hat for a classic royal flair. She completed the ensemble with pearl accessories, a red clutch, and elegant suede pumps.

After her appearance, social media buzzed with reactions to her outfit. While many admired her bold color choice, others focused on her selection of jewelry.

One person commented, “I’m not a fan of this look. The necklace doesn’t really go with the hat or the coat, and together they make it seem like she’s wearing a costume for a themed party.”

Another wrote, “I am so tired of this pearl necklace. It’s oversized, unattractive, and gaudy—yet she wears it to every major event. The royal vault is massive, and still, Kate keeps choosing this piece. It’s so frustrating [sic].”

Some people liked her overall outfit but had mixed opinions on certain details. “I was about to say I love the look and that she looks fantastic, but the necklace just doesn’t work with this outfit at all,” one person shared.

Even with some criticism, many still admired her color choice. “As always, she looks stunning in red! BUT this necklace drives me crazy. It never matches anything she wears, and pairing it with that giant bow is just confusing [sic],” someone remarked.

Another commenter jokingly called for a style update, saying, “This dress was definitely not on my bingo card. Kate, I’m begging you—please get a new pearl necklace!”

The Princess of Wales opted for an outfit that exuded timeless elegance. Her coatdress, called the “Beau Tie,” was created by Catherine Walker & Co., a designer she has frequently favored over the years.

Adding to the significance of her look, she chose jewelry with deep historical meaning—a four-strand pearl choker adorned with a diamond clasp, a cherished piece from Queen Elizabeth II’s collection.

Princess Diana later wore the same necklace to a state banquet at Hampton Court Palace in 1982, styling it alongside the House Order of Orange sash, a gift from Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

Catherine has also been seen wearing the choker multiple times. In 2017, she accessorized with it at Windsor Castle during a dinner celebrating Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary, complementing the piece with a sophisticated black lace gown.

The annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey unites representatives from all 56 member nations in a celebration of their collective dedication to progress, democracy, and peace.

This year’s theme, “Together We Thrive,” emphasized the value of building strong, interconnected communities throughout the Commonwealth.

The Princess of Wales’ attendance carried extra significance, given her recent health journey.

Alongside resuming her royal engagements, Catherine also took on a new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, made a graceful and symbolic return to public life at the 2025 Commonwealth Day service.

Her attendance not only signified her personal strength but also underscored the Royal Family’s ongoing commitment to upholding the values of the Commonwealth.
