Princess Anne ditches her signature bouffant hair after 50 years – Fans say she ‘looks so different’ with new hairdo at 75

The latest official portrait shows Princess Anne posing with her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, in front of a grand stained-glass window at Windsor Castle. Anne wore a cream gown detailed with embroidery, paired with a ceremonial sash and royal insignia. What caught attention most, however, was her hairstyle: instead of her trademark bouffant, the Princess Royal opted for a sleek chignon.

The change delighted royal watchers. Many praised the joyful energy of the portrait, with one comment reading: “She looks so happy! Lovely photo .” Another noted how her smile transformed her appearance: “She looks so different when she smiles.”

Looking back at Anne’s style

Over the decades, Princess Anne’s hair has gone through its own evolution — from vintage styles of the 1960s and 70s to more practical, polished looks in later years. While she has long favored her timeless bouffant, this new portrait offered a rare glimpse of a softer, more modern style, proving that even after decades in the spotlight, Anne can still surprise.
