Meghan Markle, or as she now prefers to be called, Meghan Sussex, launched her new Netflix show earlier this month. Titled With Love, Meghan, the series features the Duchess hosting various guests in her kitchen.

Now that the show has been out for a bit, reviews and ratings are starting to roll in—and so far, they don’t seem particularly favorable.

But is all the criticism truly warranted? Keep reading to find out more.

Meghan Markle’s Netflix show had been in development for quite some time. At first, many were unsure about its concept, but once the trailer dropped, it became crystal clear.

The show revolves around Meghan Markle—now going by Meghan Sussex—hosting celebrity guests in her home while sharing tips on cooking, baking, gardening, and entertaining.

So far, it hasn’t been well received. It currently holds a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 3/10 on IMDb—far from impressive. The release was initially delayed at Meghan’s request due to the California wildfires.

Now that it’s finally out, the response has been lukewarm. However, critics of Meghan have wasted no time in voicing their disapproval.

Many people dismissed the show as “fake” and “performative,” doubting the authenticity of the friendships it portrayed. But much of the criticism also came from those who already have a negative view of Meghan Markle.

At its core, the show is simply Meghan sharing her tips on hosting, cooking, baking, and gardening. It’s hard to see how something so straightforward could spark controversy—it’s just a woman presenting her own take on homemaking.

So why do some people feel so strongly about it that they go online to rant about how much they disliked it? There are no scripted storylines to debate, no reality TV-style drama manufactured by producers—just Meghan sharing lifestyle tips.

But many people dismissed it and labeled it as insincere, simply because of the host: Meghan Markle. Even an episode where she discussed changing her last name to Sussex faced backlash.

It’s common for women to take their husband’s last name after marriage. Meghan explained that her decision was driven by a reason shared by many women worldwide—she wanted to have the same last name as her children. She wanted to share a family name with her kids and husband. A completely ordinary and understandable choice, yet it still sparked criticism.

Despite the negative reviews, Netflix seems to view the show as a success, as it has been renewed for a second season.

No matter how much criticism she faces, the Duchess always seems to find a way to move forward.
