People are just learning the brutal reason why you should never declaw your cats

Declawing is certainly not a good practice for your cats

Many on the internet are just learning the reason why you should never declaw your cats.

Owners of the furry friends will know the struggle. That new couch you’ve just purchased for the lounge, yep the cat is going to sharpen their claws on it.

And the same can be said for any type of furniture in the house, so you can see why many cat owners decide to declaw their animal.

However, that might not be the best thing for your cat, even if it is for your couch.

According to The Humane Society of the United States: “Declawing is the amputation of the last bone of each toe on a cat’s paw,” and that definition alone should be another to put you off the practice.

The society basically likened declawing to cutting off your finger at the last knuckle, so it’s a painful experience for our furry friends.

They went on and explained: “The standard method of declawing is amputating with a scalpel or guillotine clipper. The wounds are closed with stitches or surgical glue, and the feet are bandaged.”

The discussion surrounding declawing has recently made its way to Twitter thanks to the viral account, ‘non aesthetic things’.

“This is why you shouldn’t declaw your cat,” the account penned alongside a video revealing what happens to cats when declawing takes place.

Essentially, the last bone of a cat’s toes are amputated and removed due to declawing, leading to the tendons and ligaments being impacted, which removes the claw completely.

Well, they do eventually heal, but cats can experience ‘intense pain’ as they learn to walk with what is basically amputated toes.

The video explained how cats subsequently struggle with their balance, jumping and walking – something which for sure will lead to cats using up their nine lives.

Declawing even presents itself with long-term impacts, including mobility issues, chronic pain and arthritis.

Poor babies.

Many have flocked to the comments section of the Twitter video, with many just learning the brutal truth behind declawing.

“So declawing your cat is just removing parts of their feet wth,” one person said.

A second added: “Basically cut off our very last finger bone that we basically use to type,” while a third penned: “It is crazy to imagine that a notable amount of people in the US declaw their cats. Honestly, I’ve never heard of this practice outside the US.”

Meanwhile, a fourth remarked: “Declawing should be banned everywhere, it’s just inhumane!”
