Why Princess Beatrice’s kids have a title – Princess Eugenie’s don’t

Following the recent decision to strip Prince Andrew of his royal titles, attention has turned to what this means for his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie — and their children.

Earlier this week, King Charles III officially removed his brother’s “Style, Titles and Honours,” marking a significant moment in royal history. Buckingham Palace confirmed the move in a statement released on October 30, saying:

“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.”

The Fallout from Scandal

The King’s decision comes in the wake of ongoing controversy surrounding Andrew’s association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The scandal resurfaced following the publication of a memoir by Virginia Giuffre, who in 2019 accused Andrew of having sex with her on three separate occasions when she was a minor and being trafficked by Epstein.

Giuffre tragically died by suicide earlier this year.

Although Andrew has consistently denied the allegations, he stepped back from royal duties in 2019. Now, stripped of his titles and facing eviction from Royal Lodge — the residence he shared for over 20 years with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson — questions are rising about the future status of his daughters.

Despite their father’s fall from grace, both Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are expected to retain their royal titles. However, royal watchers have pointed out a key difference between the sisters: while Beatrice’s children hold titles, Eugenie’s do not.

Why Princess Eugenie’s Children Have No Titles

Beatrice shares two daughters with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi — Sienna, aged four, and Athena, nine months. She is also stepmother to Mozzi’s son, Christopher Woolf, from a previous relationship.

Eugenie, meanwhile, is mother to two boys — August, four, and Ernest, two — with her husband Jack Brooksbank.

Although both princesses remain members of the royal family, neither was granted new royal titles by Queen Elizabeth II upon their marriages. This differs from senior royals like Prince William and Princess Kate, who became the Prince and Princess of Wales, or Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who became the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Because of this, Beatrice and Eugenie’s children were not automatically entitled to royal designations at birth.

Beatrice’s Children Inherit Their Titles from Their Father

However, Beatrice’s daughters do hold noble titles — not through the British monarchy, but from their father’s Italian heritage. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi is the son of Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, making him an Italian count.

As a result, his children inherit the courtesy titles of count or countess. Count Alessandro previously explained to the Daily Mail: “Edoardo is the only male descendant taking the family into the next generation. He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically, and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”

The Changing Shape of the Royal Family

As the monarchy continues to redefine itself under King Charles, questions about lineage, titles, and tradition remain central. While Beatrice and Eugenie have maintained their positions within the royal circle, their family’s status highlights how the next generation’s identities may differ — shaped not only by royal protocol but by the lives and choices of their parents.
