A Desperate Father Let Me Hold His Crying Baby Because Nothing Else Could Calm Him. I Thought My Nursing Instincts Were Helping A Stranger’s Child Until We Found Puncture Marks, Hidden Medication, And A DNA Report Inside The Doctor’s Bag. Then I Realized I Wasn’t Holding A Stranger’s Baby. I Was Holding My Own Son.

Part 2 of 3

Jonathan tore it open.

The first page was a DNA report.

He read it twice.

Then he handed it silently to Maya.

PATERNITY PROBABILITY: 0.00%.

Jonathan Mercer was not Eli’s biological father.

Maya turned the page.

MATERNITY PROBABILITY: 0.00%.

Rebecca Mercer was not Eli’s biological mother.

Jonathan gripped the armrest.

“These results are impossible.”

Maya examined the next sheet.

A biological match appeared beneath the laboratory code.

Her own name.

MAYA ISABEL ALVAREZ.

For several seconds, she could not understand the letters.

“No.”

Jonathan looked at her.

“Maya?”

“My son died nine months ago.”

Her voice broke.

“I held him after they told me he was gone. I buried him.”

Eli moved against her.

Maya stared at his left ear.

A small split in the lower lobe formed exactly the same unusual shape Gabriel had possessed at birth, a family trait inherited from Maya’s father.

Her hands began trembling.

“Where did Rebecca supposedly give birth?”

Jonathan answered slowly.

“St. Andrew Medical Center in Boston.”

Maya felt the cabin tilt even though the aircraft had leveled.

“That is where I delivered Gabriel.”

Owen removed additional papers from Ward’s medical case.

One was a neonatal transfer sheet with corrections made over the original dates.

Another contained growth records that did not match the infant’s age.

Eli was not five months old.

He was nine months old.

Chronic underfeeding and repeated sedation had kept him unusually small.

Maya pressed her face against his hair.

“Gabriel.”

Jonathan sat completely still.

Rebecca had never given birth to the child she called Eli. Hospital records, pregnancy imaging, and delivery notes had all been constructed through private medical channels.

Yet Rebecca had clearly believed something was wrong before she died.

“Why would anyone give Rebecca another woman’s child?” Maya asked.

Owen began reading bank records found beneath the medical reports.

Payments to Dr. Ward originated through subsidiaries connected to Julian Mercer, Jonathan’s forty-year-old younger brother and executive vice chairman of Mercer Dominion Capital.

The Mercer family trust contained a succession clause. If Jonathan died without a biological heir, Julian would gain control of the voting shares.

However, if Jonathan publicly recognized a biological child, large portions of the trust would become irrevocably locked for that heir.

The apparent contradiction made no sense.

Until Maya noticed another laboratory form.

Unlike the first report, it tested only Eli’s relationship to Jonathan’s bloodline.

The probability exceeded 99.9 percent.

Jonathan looked at Owen.

“How can he belong to my bloodline but not be my son?”

Owen said nothing.

His silence lasted too long.

Maya felt something cold move through her.

The Night Maya Could Not Remember

Dr. Ward appeared suddenly at the far end of the cabin.

His shirt was soaked with sweat, and one hand held a syringe pressed against his own neck.

The other gripped a small emergency hammer taken from the aircraft equipment compartment.

Passengers recoiled.

“Nobody moves,” Ward said.

Owen immediately positioned himself between Jonathan and the doctor.

Jonathan stood.

“You poisoned my child.”

Ward laughed bitterly.

“Your child? You still have not understood anything.”

“Rebecca discovered what you were doing.”

Ward’s expression tightened.

“Rebecca discovered the transfer records. She threatened to contact federal authorities.”

Jonathan stepped closer.

“Did Julian order her death?”

Ward shook his head.

“Julian financed the operation, but he never understood who designed the biological component.”

His eyes shifted toward Owen.

Jonathan followed the look.

For the first time, the security director appeared uncertain.

“What is he talking about?” Jonathan asked.

Ward looked at Maya.

“Ask her about the Mercer Foundation gala in Boston ten months before her baby was born.”

Maya’s breath stopped.

She remembered the event.

She had attended as a representative of the pediatric hospital receiving a charitable donation from Mercer Dominion.

During the reception, she drank half a glass of champagne and suddenly became disoriented. Hours later, she woke in a private hotel suite without knowing how she arrived there.

A hospital toxicology test later confirmed a sedative in her bloodstream.

She filed a police report.

No perpetrator was identified.

Maya looked toward Owen.

A memory returned.

A dark suit.

A calm voice.

A security officer helping her into an elevator because she “appeared ill.”

Owen.

“You were there,” she whispered.

Jonathan turned toward him.

“Tell me he is lying.”

Owen’s face hardened.

“Ward is trying to save himself.”

Ward laughed.

“Then explain why the fertility laboratory received genetic material belonging to your brother.”

Jonathan’s confusion deepened.

Ward spoke quickly.

“Owen obtained stored genetic material from Julian during a private fertility assessment three years earlier. Maya was drugged, transported to a clinic operated through one of our contractors, and subjected to an illegal insemination procedure without informed consent.”

Maya nearly dropped Eli.

Jonathan caught the infant’s blanket with one hand.

“Julian is Gabriel’s biological father?”

Ward nodded.

“Genetically, yes. He did not know Maya had been selected. He believed the clinic was conducting research connected to his fertility screening.”

Jonathan looked toward Owen.

“Why?”

Owen’s voice finally lost its professional calm.

“Because your family trust was the weakness nobody could overcome. Julian wanted control, but the board would never accept him while you remained healthy. We needed an heir connected to Mercer blood whose existence we could manipulate.”

“So you created one using a woman who never consented.”

“We needed someone outside your social world. Someone whose pregnancy would not attract attention.”

Maya’s voice shook with rage.

“You stole my body before you stole my child.”

Owen did not deny it.

Ward continued.

When Gabriel was born, hospital staff working with the conspiracy falsely declared him dead and substituted the body of another premature infant whose identity had been legally mishandled after an emergency transfer.

Gabriel was moved into a private facility.

Months later, Rebecca was told she had suffered a concealed high-risk pregnancy managed through private specialists and had delivered prematurely during a medical crisis. Sedatives, falsified scans, and manipulated records sustained the lie.

Jonathan had been traveling almost constantly during that period.

His trust in Ward and Owen filled every gap.

Rebecca eventually discovered that the child’s medical records contained impossible dates.

She began investigating.

That investigation got her killed.

Jonathan stared at Owen.

“You murdered my wife.”

Owen’s expression remained cold.

“Rebecca confronted Ward before we were ready. She threatened the entire structure.”

“You murdered her.”

“We prevented one person from destroying a plan worth billions.”
