Surgeon reveals five foods linked to rise in ‘silent killer’ after surge amongst Gen Z and Millennials


Five meals may raise the risk of a “silent killer” ailment that is becoming increasingly prevalent in young people, according to experts.

One type of cancer is on the rise, according to alarming data, and there may be items you should avoid if you want to reduce your risk of getting it.

Using TikTok to spread factual health advice, Dr. Karen Zaghiyan is now cautioning that consuming these five items might not be the best course of action.

“We’re seeing an alarming rise in young onset colorectal cancer,” the expert stated in a video that was posted earlier this month.

“While nobody totally knows why exactly we’re seeing this, a lot of people are suggesting – and the research shows – that perhaps it may be related to what we’re eating.”

The doctor listed every meal that may be causing bowel cancer, including some that we most likely eat on a daily basis.

Red meat

The physician stated: “This includes beef, veal, lamb, pork – there’s about an 18 percent increased risk of colorectal cancer who regularly consume red meat.”

Dr. Zaghiyan cautioned that although some red meat is beneficial for iron and protein intake, the “safe amount” of red meat to consume has not yet been determined by specialists.

Additionally, cooking it over a flame—which occurs at many barbecues all year long—increases the danger even further, she said.

Processed meat

“The less processed meat you eat, the better,” the doctor said.

She stated: “These include lunch meats, deli meats, bacon, pepperoni, sausage – any of these are processed meats and they increase your risk of colorectal cancer by 15 percent to 35 percent if you’re eating one serving per day.”

Sugary drinks

Reaching for a sugary drink about 3 p.m. is practically a daily routine if you’re anything like me.

It gives you a kind of boost that helps you get through the end of the workday.

However, the doctor has cautioned that reaching for these beverages may raise your risk of getting cancer.

According to Dr. Zaghiyan, “A study found that two servings a day of sugared beverages doubles your risk of colorectal cancer versus those who had it less than once a week.”

Alcohol

We are all aware of the negative effects of drinking alcohol; we certainly experience them the following morning.

However, the expert has cautioned that alcohol consumption raises the risk of a number of additional illnesses.

She stated: “Alcohol not only increases your risk of colorectal cancer, but it also increases your risk of multiple other cancers.”

Ultra-processed food

Unfortunately, this group includes snacks like cereal and chips.

Dr. Zaghiyan continued: “The reason for the increased association with various gut conditions as well as colorectal cancer is due to the existence of emulsifiers, artificial sweeteners, and various additional additives like food dyes that come in these foods.”

Although the expert acknowledges that it is unrealistic to completely eliminate all of these foods from your diet, she cautioned that even little dietary adjustments can significantly lower your risk of getting cancer.

She stated: “I think all of us can help take a huge step forward in reducing our risk of colorectal cancer.”
