A 16-year-old revealed that her father has been dishonest on her mother in front of the entire family.

Faulty households have an impact on the well-being of all members, particularly children. These dysfunctional relationships result in persistent feelings of guilt, shame, or worthlessness, as well as attachment disorders.

The adolescent who shared her experience on Reddit some time ago comes from a family in which the father is largely absent from his children’s lives, although living under the same roof as them.

She came to the Reddit thread AITA to explain that her mother raised her and her siblings while her father was not very active.

One day, as he returned home and left his phone on the table, OP was able to see the message he received at the time, which stated, “Last night was amazing, can’t wait to see you again” and included some emoji.

After some thought, she decided to tell her mother that her father had been dishonest on her. “She got pretty emotional which I felt bad about, and told me not to worry and that I should just worry about being a kid and let her take care of the rest, so I just let it go cause I didn’t want to hurt her more.”

One evening, the entire family met for dinner at OP’s grandparents’ house. There, her cousin announced that she had begun a new job. Everyone was overjoyed with the news, until OP’s father informed her that she should be more like her cousin because she wasn’t any good, according to him. But he did not stop there. In fact, he kept humiliating OP, telling her she needed to focus more on academics and much more.

He remarked once that OP did not respect him, which was the final straw.

At this point, the OP had had enough. “Hard to respect you when you openly cheat on Mom and don’t even try to hide it,” she stated in front of everyone.

The room fell silent at first, but her father began ranting at both her and her mother. The mother then collected her children and informed her husband that she should not be going home.

Upon returning home, OP began receiving text messages from relatives accusing her of destroying the event and the family. Her mother, on the other hand, informed her “that she understood my frustration and I probably should have expressed it better privately but what’s done is done.”

Redditors quickly commented that the OP was NTA.
