King Charles’ bold plan for Prince Louis: He might follow in his grandfather’s footsteps with royal shake-up

Part 2 of 2

Recently, King Charles granted his brother, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh title, continuing Prince Philip’s legacy. This move hints at potential future roles for younger royals like Louis.

Prince Edward was handed the title on his 59th birthday. He will hold the title his entire life, while his son, James, also known as Viscount Severn, now becomes the Earl of Wessex.

King Charles’ plan: Louis to become Duke of Edinburgh?

King Charles has honored Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s wish by granting Prince Edward the Duke of Edinburgh title.

When Prince Philip passed in 2021, the title went to Charles but reverted to the Crown when he became king. Now, Charles has chosen Edward to hold it for life.

However, the title is not hereditary. Upon Edward’s passing, it returns to the Crown, and Prince Louis could be next in line. Royal expert Richard Kay previously suggested Charles prefers a smaller monarchy and may plan for Louis to inherit the title in the future.

There will likely be many royal duties for Pince Louis to engage in in the future, though some aren’t sure that this is for the best. In an interview with The Telegraph to promote his book, Spare, Harry spoke about Charlotte and Louis, revealing that he fears for their future.

Kate feeling “sadness” about Louis growing up

Prince Louis continues to charm royal fans, despite missing the Queen’s funeral. At the family’s Christmas service in Sandringham, his outfit sparked curiosity, but he appeared cheerful, even accepting a gift from a well-wisher.

With Louis nearing five, Kate Middleton seems nostalgic about his early years. For Mother’s Day, she shared photos, including one where she cradled him. Body language expert Judi James noted it highlighted Kate’s emotional side, cherishing her bond with her youngest while embracing his growing independence.

“If he is going to be her last child, these feelings of sadness mixed with love could be magnified for her, too,” she concluded.

“He’s a big boy now”

During a visit to the Royal Surrey County Hospital last October, Kate fondly recalled how fast Prince Louis was growing, saying, “I keep thinking Louis is a baby, but he’s a big boy now.”

She previously expressed similar sentiments in 2022, telling a passerby, “I keep thinking Louis is my baby, but he’s a proper boy now.”

What do you think the future holds for Prince Louis? Will he take on royal duties or step back as the monarchy evolves? Share your thoughts!
