Meghan Markle reveals her and kids have new surname as she speaks out on meaning behind it

Meghan Markle shares the heartfelt meaning behind her family’s surname

The Duchess of Sussex has opened up about her and her children’s surname, revealing its deep significance to their family.

Meghan Markle, 42, who shares son Archie, 5, and daughter Lilibet, 3, with Prince Harry, recently spoke about their family life as she prepares to launch her new Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, on March 4.

In an interview with People, Meghan reflected on her creative projects, her relationship with Harry, and their life as parents in Montecito, California.

The Suits veteran explained that the Sussex surname – which was bestowed upon her and Harry by the late Queen Elizabeth II on their wedding day back in 2018 – holds much personal significance.

“It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognised how meaningful that would be to me until we had children,” Meghan shared. “I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.”

She added that the Sussex name is ‘part of our love story’.

She reflected on the significance of their family name, saying the Sussex title is “part of our love story.”

Opening up about motherhood, Meghan shared: “When your children get to a certain age – when you’re not just playing in the sandbox with them but almost playing in your own sandbox again – it’s super joyful.

“As a woman, a mom and a wife, to be able to find yourself again – in a way that was always present but that you maybe couldn’t put as much attention on as you now can when your kids are a little bit older – is a wonderful feeling.”

Although her new lifestyle series—featuring well-known names like Abigail Spencer, Mindy Kaling, Delfina Blaquier, and Roy Choi—paints a picture of domestic happiness, Meghan doesn’t see herself as a traditional stay-at-home wife.

“I like being able to do a hybrid,” she explained. “But even when I get takeout, I will try to plate it beautifully. The series is about doing what you can do and doing it with love.”

Meghan, Harry, and their two children all share the Sussex surname.

It has now been five years since the couple stepped away from their royal duties in the UK to start a new life in the U.S. Reflecting on the journey, Meghan noted just how much things have changed: *”Five years ago, Archie was only eight or nine months old, so my life has changed so much.

“Anyone who has children will tell you, it’s a huge evolution as a woman during that time.”

Looking ahead, she expressed excitement for the future: *”Can you imagine? This is just the beginning. Life is full of surprises!

“And my gosh, in 10 years, Archie will be driving!”
