Meghan Markle Says She Would ‘Ask People to Tell the Truth’ If She Could Rewrite Her Public Story

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is opening up about how she views the public narrative around her life in an upcoming episode of the podcast Aspire with Emma Grede.

The conversation, set to air June 17, was previewed by Vanity Fair, offering a glimpse into Meghan’s thoughts on fame, truth, and reclaiming her personal story.

When asked by host Emma Grede if she would change anything about her public narrative, Meghan didn’t hesitate: “Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth,” she replied with a laugh.

From Actress to Duchess – and Beyond

Before marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan was best known for her role on Suits. However, life changed dramatically when she stepped into a royal role. Meghan and Harry officially stepped back from their duties in 2020 and relocated to California. Since then, they’ve been vocal about their experience with the media and the lack of protection they felt from the royal institution.

Their side of the story has been told through their 2021 Oprah interview, the Harry & Meghan Netflix docuseries in 2022, and Harry’s 2023 memoir Spare.

Now settled in California, the couple is raising their two children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, while building new ventures.

Meghan’s Entrepreneurial Turn

Meghan has had a busy year. She launched her lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard (recently spotlighted in Vanity Fair as “As Ever”), released the Netflix cooking series With Love, Meghan, and debuted her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder with Lemonada Media.

In her conversation with Grede, the two dive into Meghan’s entrepreneurial journey — including the struggles of launching a startup and her early days selling scrunchies as a young girl. Meghan speaks candidly about how deeply personal the process has been and how she’s found empowerment in creating things on her own terms.

Reclaiming Moments on Social Media

In a more lighthearted moment, Grede praised Meghan for sharing a playful throwback video — the now-viral “baby mama dance” recorded before Princess Lilibet’s birth in 2021. Meghan appreciated the cheer and explained the video’s deeper meaning.

“That was four years ago,” she said. “So it’s a really great reminder that, despite all the noise, there’s a real, fun, authentic life happening behind the scenes.”

She also touched on her return to social media, saying she’s thankful to finally have a space to share those moments on her own terms. After deactivating her personal accounts in 2017 and closing the couple’s official @SussexRoyal account in 2020, Meghan rejoined Instagram earlier this year for the first time in five years.
