The toothpaste trick to get rid of cockroaches for good

Cockroaches are one of the most common and persistent home pests. Besides being unpleasant, they can pose health risks by carrying bacteria and pathogens.

Fortunately, there are effective home remedies for combating them without resorting to harsh chemicals. One of them is using toothpaste in combination with other common ingredients.

This highly effective home method is described below:

Necessary ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 4 tablespoons of flour
  • 2-3 tablespoons of toothpaste (preferably white, no gels or artificial colors)
  • 3 tablespoons of water

Preparation and application

  1. In a bowl, mix the sugar, flour, and toothpaste until you get a smooth dough.
  2. Add the water little by little, mixing until you achieve a consistency that allows you to form small balls.
  3. Using your hands, form marble-sized balls.
  4. Distribute the pellets in areas where you have observed cockroach activity, such as behind appliances, under the sink, in dark corners, and near cracks.
  5. Replace the pellets every few days to maintain their effectiveness.

How does this method work?

Sugar and flour act as attractants for cockroaches, while toothpaste contains ingredients such as fluoride and baking soda, which are toxic to these insects. Upon ingesting the mixture, cockroaches suffer adverse effects that can lead to death. This method is a cost-effective and less toxic alternative to commercial pesticides.

  • Maintain cleanliness : Cockroaches are attracted to food scraps and moisture. Clean kitchen surfaces regularly, don’t leave dirty dishes, and store food in airtight containers.
  • Seal cracks and crevices : Use caulk or silicone to close potential entry points in walls, floors, and around pipes.
  • Prevent water buildup : Repair leaks and dry out damp areas, as cockroaches need water to survive.
  • Use natural repellents : Place bay leaves, mint, or lavender in areas prone to infestation. These scents are unpleasant to cockroaches and can help keep them away.

Precautions:

  • Child and Pet Safety : Although this mixture is less toxic than commercial pesticides, it is important to place the pellets out of reach of children and pets to avoid accidental ingestion.
  • Infestation Assessment : This method is most effective for mild to moderate infestations. If the presence of cockroaches persists or is severe, consider contacting a pest control professional.

This homemade approach offers an affordable and effective solution for combating cockroaches in your home. Combined with good hygiene and prevention practices, it can help you keep your space free of these unwanted pests.
