Moral Stories Behind Closed Doors

At Our Luxury Wedding, My Wealthy Groom Threw a $100 Bill on the Floor for My Mother and Called Our Marriage a “Charity Project”—He Smirked as His Family Laughed, Never Realizing the Undercover FBI Agents Waiting by the Ballroom Doors Were There Because of Him

Part 2 of 3

A hush moved through the room.

Conrad stood.

“That is enough,” he said sharply. “Step down.”

“No,” Tessa replied. “I am only beginning.”

She removed her phone from a hidden pocket in her gown and opened a secure file.

The photographs on the screens disappeared.

In their place appeared a complicated chart filled with company names, financial transfers, and lines connecting dozens of accounts.

Several Bellrose executives stopped smiling.

Tessa looked directly at Conrad.

“For the past seven months, my firm has conducted an independent financial review of Bellrose Holdings for one of its largest lenders.”

Grayson rose from his chair.

“Tessa, stop.”

“When you proposed, I removed myself from the final lending decision because I believed our relationship should remain separate from my work,” she said. “But I did not stop documenting what I found.”

She changed the slide.

A list of properties appeared, along with the loans attached to them.

“Bellrose Holdings has presented the same properties as security for multiple loans. Corporate funds were used to cover private travel, personal homes, club memberships, and tonight’s wedding.”

Murmurs spread through the guests.

“That is false,” Conrad said.

“No,” Tessa replied. “It is verified.”

She displayed another report.

“Your company has overstated its value by more than seventy million dollars. Several major obligations were concealed from lenders, employees, and business partners.”

Grayson hurried toward the stage.

“Turn that off,” he demanded. “You are destroying everything.”

Tessa looked at him calmly.

“I am not destroying your family’s company. I am showing everyone what your family already did to it.”

Conrad turned toward four men in dark suits positioned near the ballroom doors.

“Security, remove her.”

The men stepped into the aisle.

For one brief moment, Grayson appeared relieved.

Then the tallest man opened his jacket and displayed a federal identification badge.

“Mr. Bellrose,” he said, “we are not hotel security.”

The ballroom doors closed.

The room fell completely silent.

The Guests at the Exit

The lead investigator introduced himself as Agent Warren Cole from a federal financial crimes team.

“No one involved in Bellrose Holdings’ financial operations should leave the ballroom until the necessary records and individuals have been identified,” he announced.

Conrad’s face lost its color.

Lenora lowered herself into a chair.

Grayson stepped onto the stage and approached Tessa.

“You arranged this?” he asked.

“I cooperated with the investigation,” she replied.

“You trapped me.”

“I intended to marry you, Grayson. I spent weeks hoping the evidence would show that you did not understand what your father was doing.”

His voice softened.

“I didn’t know everything.”

Tessa changed the screen again.

A transfer authorization appeared behind them.

At the bottom was Grayson’s verified electronic approval.

“You authorized the removal of three million dollars from the employee retirement reserve twelve days ago,” she said.

The room erupted in shocked whispers.

Grayson looked at the screen.

“That was temporary.”

“You moved money that belonged to your employees into a private company.”

“My father said it would be replaced.”

Conrad pointed at his son.

“You told me the funds were being used for payroll.”

“You told me no one would examine the reserve,” Grayson replied.

Their carefully maintained image began collapsing in front of everyone.

Tessa displayed the destination account.

The money had been sent to a private company called Halcyon Ridge LLC.

“The company receiving the funds was formed in Delaware three months ago,” Tessa explained. “Its owner is here tonight.”

She pointed toward a woman in the second row.

Paige Holloway, Tessa’s maid of honor, stared back at her.

Paige’s face went pale.

“Tessa, I can explain,” she said.

“Can you explain the apartment Grayson purchased through your company?”

Paige looked toward Grayson.

That glance gave Tessa the answer before either of them spoke.

The hidden account had not only been created to move company money.

It had been intended to finance a new life for Grayson and Paige after he gained access to the Marlowe trust.

The wedding had been a transaction.

Tessa was never meant to become an equal partner.

She was meant to become useful.

Her Mother’s Quiet Secret

As federal investigators began speaking with company executives, Conrad searched the room for someone he could still intimidate.

His gaze settled on Inez.

He marched toward her table.

“You think this makes you powerful?” he said. “By tomorrow, I will have your sewing business removed from the building where you rent. You and your daughter will lose everything.”

Inez looked up at him.

For the first time that evening, she smiled.

“You do not need to wait until tomorrow.”

She lifted an old leather handbag from beside her chair and removed a large envelope.

Conrad frowned.

“What is that?”

Inez stood and handed him several documents.

“They are termination notices for three commercial leases in the downtown arts district.”

Conrad glanced over the pages.

His expression changed.

The properties listed were the locations of three Bellrose luxury boutiques.
